Editor’s note: Thank you for joining us for this podcast edition of GeoInspirations. Today our distinguished columnist, Dr. Joseph Kerski, talks with Patricia Carbajales-Dale, Co-Director of the Clemson University Center of Excellence and manager of the Geospatial Technology Center. She regularly consults with others on campus for geotechnology services and training, teaches workshops and courses in GIS, and promotes GIS throughout the campus. Patricia joined Clemson’s Cyberinfrastructure Technology Integration Group in September 2014. Previously, she established and ran the Stanford University Geospatial Center and served as GIS Lecturer within the School of Earth Sciences. She created and taught the first “GIS for Good” class, in which students from different disciplines partnered with the UN and other international humanitarian organizations to create innovative solutions to real-world problems in a service learning mode.  After knowing Patricia for several years, I finally had the chance to visit her at Clemson for GIS Day 2019, an event that attracted hundreds of people. It was a joy to observe the way she and her center work as a cohesive team, promoting GIS in research, instruction, and in campus facility management.  I also like the fact that the center is an integral part of the campus library. She is an active member of the GIS education and research community with influence far beyond her campus.
