Editor’s note: Thank you for joining us for this edition of GeoInspirations. Today our distinguished columnist, Dr. Joseph Kerski, features Jasmine Du, software developer and programmer at the Esri R&D Center in Beijing, China.
One of the points I make in my career presentations to students of all ages is that by gaining GIS programming knowledge and skills, they will be highly in demand. Even more importantly, they can forge a rewarding career developing software and applications that people around the world will use and value. I also tell them that if they develop their communication and teaching skills, they can enable others from a wide variety of backgrounds use the tools that they have developed. Jasmine Du embodies all of these skills and so much more. I met her a few summers ago at the Esri User Conference in San Diego, where she was staffing the ArcGIS Earth exhibit, helping people become familiar with its 3D visualization and analysis capabilities. I was very impressed with her knowledge and skills in GIS tools and her ability to teach them to beginning and advanced GIS professionals alike. I trust that the readers of Directions will find her story fascinating as well, and it is with great delight that I share her story.
