Editor’s note: Thank you for joining us for this edition of GeoInspirations. Today our distinguished columnist, Dr. Joseph Kerski, features Denise Powell, educator in the University of Colorado’s ATLAS program.

ATLAS is “an interdisciplinary institute for radical creativity and invention”. I have been in touch with the program since its inception as it is doing, in my opinion, the kind of innovative work that truly transcends boundaries. I have been very impressed by Denise Powell’s approach and methods, and in my interactions with her students over the years, it is clear that she is making a positive difference. Her institute’s infusion of social activism and awareness, art, engineering, and design in technology education is refreshing, different, and much needed. Denise has a unique pathway and as she is a key part of forging a new type of university institute, I am sure her story will inspire others. Therefore, it is my pleasure to bring Denise Powell to the attention of the readers of Directions Magazine.
