Costa Rica is an emerald gem set in the heart of Central America. Experience its beautiful tropical forests, amazing biological diversity, and dedication to environmental conservation. Be an integral part of a team of teachers that will computer map for the first time, the watershed, plant and animal life of the Selva Verde Private Reserve. During this experience, you will be incorporating authentic field research and mapping the collected data using geographic information systems (GIS), while exploring this tropical paradise. In this pioneering effort you will provide invaluable data for use by many teacher and student groups both in Costa Rica and at home. This 10-day adventure is ideally suited for educators. Bring back to your classroom the techniques you learn and data you gather.

Itinerary Highlights:
Chilamate - Lowland Rainforests
- Explore and map the majestic rainforests of Selva Verde Private Reserve
- Discover the fascinating world of tropical birds, take an exciting river rafting trip and search by boat for wildlife on the Sarapiqui River
- Develop data-gathering and GIS mapping skills using ArcView software
- Help pioneer efforts to provide invaluable physical and human geographic data for use by teacher and student groups both in Costa Rica and at home

Arenal - Active Volcano
- Learn about Costa Rica's volcanoes
- Soak in the hot pools of the Arenal Volcano
- Challenge yourself with a thrilling zip-line adventure
